Posted on: October 28, 2011
There are some differences between LCDs and Plasma TVs. Plasma televisions are bigger (Up to 70") and are a bit heavier than LCDs. Experts say that a large plasma TV (32" or larger) has better contrast and sharpness than a LCD. Plasma TVs also fare better in image burn, viewing angle, brightness, life-span and energy use than LCDs, according to industry reviews.
The following information focuses on the plasma TV. Essentially, Samsung plasma TVs and the different models made by the manufacturer that are available in stores and at www.plasmatv.com today.
Samsung's D-Series
Samsung launched its D series in early 2011. The D series is a line associated with Smart TV or rather the Internet integrated into the television without the need for an extra processor (i.e. PC or Tablet). The series also has a +1 feature that allows an additional 1" of viewing compared to normal plasma TVs, which take an extra inch off the picture's edges. Samsung designs a number a different TVs in this series and each have different Smart TV features.
D8000
The D8000 Smart TV is the top of the line of Samsung Plasma TV models. This Smart TV has an integrated processor that allows users to use popular applications like Skype (with the use of any plug-in webcam), YouTube, and Samsung's own Social TV. The social TV feature integrates Facebook, Twitter and Google, all in a one-stop channel. There is also a web browser channel and Smarthub channel for downloading other useful applications. In addition to the Smart TV and "+1" features, the D8000 series comes with an optional 3D converter, allowing users to choose between 3D and 2D viewing formats. Clear imaging, 3D sound, full HD with 1080p resolution and a color enhancer complete this Samsung signature product.
D7000
The D7000 series has almost everything the D8000 offers except that Samsung the limits the TV monitor to only 50".
D6500
The D6500 is the best option for consumers who want a Smart TV at a lower price. It carries some of the qualities of the D7000 and D8000 but has its 3D converter at an option for those customers who want to buy a cheaper Plasma. Skype and Social TV are not included with this model.
D550 and D450
These two models do not come with a 3D feature and they do not have Smart TV options built into the television. However, they do offer the same full HD with 1080p and color enhancer picture quality as the D6500 and higher models. The series also includes a DNLA all share network processor that can integrate all smart devices (iPhone, tablets or PC) in a one channel format.
Samsung's C-Series
Samsung presented this series in early 2010. None of Samsung's C series models carry Smart TV features. Neither is the +1 feature installed in the C series, which means that a 42" Plasma would only give a user 41" of viewing. However, most models do come with optional 3D packages and all have full HD with 1080p resolution. Aside from missing Smart TV options, these models have the same resolution quality as in the Samsung's D series.
C8000
The C8000 is fully 3D compatible and adds Samsung's HD with 1080p and color enhancer. The manufacturer prices the C8000 much lower than the D series. Even though the TV does not come with any smart device processing, the C8000 does include HDMI inputs to add external devises.
C6500 and C7000
These Samsung models are on the lower end of Samsung's Plasma TV models. The C7000 is 3D ready, but Samsung does not include it in the device. The C6500 is not 3D compatible. The two models have the same 1080p resolution, Clear Image Panel quality as the C8000 and have up to 3 HDMI inputs.
Samsung's Series 4 and Series 5
This is the lowest model that Samsung offers in the market. None of the Plasma TVs offered in the series are 3D compatible. Each model offers either 1080p resolution or 720P depending on the model number. This line is the absolute lowest priced TV in Samsung's plasma TV line-up.
